Day 4: Big God

We don’t need to do the math to know that the universe is enormous. But God is even bigger!

Yesterday we looked at the incredible fact that God created the entire universe effortlessly by just speaking. Can anything top that?

Well, it might not top it, but here’s another incredible fact about our great God.

“Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.”

Jeremiah 23:24

The common measurement used to measure the universe is light-years. A light-year is roughly six trillion miles. Scientists estimate the size of the known universe to be about 93 billion light-years. 6 trillion x 93 billion. We don’t need to do the math to see that the universe is enormous.

But God is even bigger! Here God says he fills it! Saying that he fills the earth would be mind-boggling. But filling the universe? That’s beyond mind boggling. No wonder, as we saw earlier this week, that he says he is in a class by himself.

God is unique, on a far higher plane than we could ever have envisioned.

As the Lord said in the passage quoted above, this means no one can hide from him. This can be terrifying if we aren’t right with God.

But this can also be extremely comforting.

When we are covered with Christ’s perfection, God is well-pleased with us and will lovingly take care of us.

Even though he fills the heavens and the earth, he pays special attention to those who trust solely in Jesus. He loves them and promises to provide for them. Jesus said:

“Take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 6:31-33

As Jesus said, the key is seeking God’s righteousness. We do that by trusting only in Jesus.

“The righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe.”

Romans 3:22

It’s not about our righteousness but his righteousness. It’s not about becoming righteous ourselves. It’s all about trusting in Christ’s righteousness for us. That’s the key to being our great God’s blessed child.

Trust in Jesus and know that God is watching over you.
