The song teaches me that I was not the cause of my salvation at all. Everything from the beginning to the end is God’s full and free grace poured out in Jesus Christ. By Grace I’m Saved is a celebration of salvation by grace. The lyrics coupled with an energetic arrangement implies a communal outburst of joy has everyone making noise for the Lord.
There was nothing in me that me deserving of God’s grace. But I have received that grace and am not alive. Because of the faith that God has given me in the perfect work of Jesus, I no longer need to have fear or doubt in this life or for the life to come. Although believing or trusting that Jesus did it all is something people do – according to Scripture, the power to do that doesn’t come from within a person. It comes from outside a person. It comes from the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 12:3).

By nature, all people are dead in their trespasses and sins and unable to make themselves alive. God gives the gift of faith through the working of the Holy Spirit, who brings and connects people to Jesus so that they trust in him.
The dead, lifeless hand shows me what I was like before the Holy Spirit made me alive spiritually. There was nothing that I could do to make myself live. I was dead, hopeless, and lifeless in every sense of the word.
God in his love acted, not when humanity made any movement towards him, but in his love, he sent Jesus to live, die, and rise and then connects dead people to Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit.
