Peace, for many, feels like something that is always… just out of reach. The heart longs for it, but life rarely delivers it. Especially for those taught that peace must be earned by staying worthy, keeping the commandments, or maintaining harmony in the home, it can feel fragile, dependent on performance. When things fall apart, so does peace.
But the peace the angels sang about that first Christmas was nothing like that. It was not the calm that comes from trying harder or doing better. It was the announcement that the greatest war in history—the war between humanity and God—was coming to an end.
The child born that night came to live the perfect life we could not, to die for our rebellion, and to rise again to provide lasting and eternal peace. The war has been won. Our rebellion has been reconciled. We have been received through the righteousness of Jesus. Paul wrote, “Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).
That is the good news of Christmas. It is God’s open invitation: come in peace. The doors to heaven stand open because the Prince of Peace has already made the way. There is no need to be afraid to approach God anymore. In Jesus, the debt is paid, the hostility is over, and absolute peace is finally here.
Prayer: Prince of Peace, thank you for ending the war. Help every heart rest in the peace you have already won.
