Day 3: Big God

Genesis 1 records how God just spoke, and everything was created—effortlessly and perfectly. Talk about incredible power!

This week we are looking at various aspects emphasizing God’s greatness. Today we turn our attention to his power.

God is all-powerful.

A tremendous example is his creation of the universe. Scripture says,

“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

Hebrews 11:3

This verse mentions several incredible facts. It first talks about “worlds”, in other words, the entire universe! The universe is so huge that we don’t even know its outer limits. But what we do know is mind-boggling.  Did you know that the sun is so large that 1.3 million earths could fit inside it? And the sun is just one of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that’s 1 billion trillion) stars in the observable universe!

The entire universe and everything in it, according to scripture, came into existence just “by the word of God”. Genesis 1 records how God just spoke, and everything was created—effortlessly and perfectly. Talk about incredible power!

Especially when we read that “things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”.  In other words, God didn’t just organize existing raw materials. No, he created everything out of nothing: the rocks, the gases, everything. This is how powerful God is.

Such power can be terrifying if a person isn’t right with God. Scripture describes how some people will want the mountains to fall on them instead of facing God on Judgment Day.

This power, however, can be extremely comforting to people who are right with God—who are perfect right now in his sight because they have covered themselves with Christ’s perfection by trusting solely in him.

God’s power is so comforting to those right with God because, in his everlasting love, God loves to use his power to protect, provide, and bless them.

“The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”

Deuteronomy 33:27

Friend, are you right with God? Are you confident you are worthy in his sight? Are you eagerly looking forward to Judgment Day, knowing he will welcome you to live with him for all eternity?

You can answer each question with an emphatic yes when you trust that Jesus has done everything for you.

Trust only in Jesus and rejoice!
